How to wear- The 90’s Bob

Without sounding naff, less really is more in terms of styling with this haircut.

The beautiful outline means you can often leave it to your hair to bring the cut to life, whether you have straight, wavy or curly hair.

-Don’t wash your hair for a few days. The great advantage of second and third day hair is the subtle movement that comes from simply living- sleeping, tucking hair behind your ear or having it tied up. This movement that is otherwise messy in longer hair, looks beautiful and intentional within the shape of this cut. It is impossible to recreate this lived in movement with tongs or straighteners. A little spray of dry shampoo in the fringe adds to that dusty, soft tousled feel throughout the hair. Try it!

-Slick your hair back with mousse while it is damp, in to a deep side parting with volume for an alluring look of the 90’s. Finish with hairspray and allow to dry on its own. Couple it up with your best lipstick.

-Comb a little cream through and hover a diffuser near without touching the hair until a gentle cast has formed. Scrunch with your hands and leave to finish air drying on it own. Perfect for the summer or when you need to dash out of the door.

We asked a few of our clients if they wouldn’t mind giving their daily hair routine for The 90’s Bob. What products they like to apply for texture and their preferred methods of drying.

Hopefully there is a little something you can take away to try on your own hair!

Immi-

  • Uhmm the main thing I do is not brush it after i’ve showered (I brush it in the shower with conditioner in) and use a microfibre towel.

  • Then maybe some salt spray when it’s damp, but if I actually wanted to try and make it curlier I would probably use a light weight mouse when it’s wet but I haven’t left the house in ages so I don’t bother ahaha. Basically whatever you guys taught me

and also drying with the clips for my fringe! xx

Kay-

Once my hair has been cut, I tend to just leave it to air dry most days.

Balancing the resuming school run with work, means having a haircut that I don’t need to worry about styling in the morning, though I still want to feel chic and beautiful.

In terms of products, I actually don’t tend to use much. Since pregnancy my hair has got straighter, and I swear my hair is curlier without products!

I Occasionally use the Natural brand ‘Cocunat’, the Cocunat Curl Spray, alongside their Curl Booster Gel

Nujoud-

In regards to daily styling;

I either usually put some heat protecting spray and brush it out when it’s wet while I’m drying it.

Or for a more natural look; I put some salt spray, and a curl activating cream or mousse.

And that’s pretty much It

Anna- The o

nly thing I use is the salt fudge urban salt spray w

hen it’s still a bit damp,

ESP on my fringe so it’s not flat

And I always dry it naturally!

Alina- If I want to keep my hair voluminous then I use volume shampoo and a bit of Undressed natural texture spray, then let them air dry.

And to keep them shiny I use Hershesons hair cream and that’s it☺️

Thomasin-

I wash hair the night before most days (I know I shouldn’t) with a cleansing cream and wrap my head in a towel for 5 mins.

Then comb my hair through making sure I pull the comb away from my head at a jaunty 90° angle, tip my head upside down and scrunch in a small palmful of Superdrug’s Style Expertise Mousse 09.

I let my hair air dry before I sleep on it and wake up looking wild.

Sometimes I need to dampen down the odd section of hair but mostly I just warm some Hershesons almost everything cream between my hands and twiddle my fingers through my curls.

That’s it.

Claire-
I wash it every other day and always leave it to dry naturally, I will put a pea size amount of frizz taming oil in and leave it to do it’s thing!

You can do that when the bro’s cut your hair 👍🏼

After showering I wrap my hair in an old t-shirt or towel for 10-20’. Then, I spray some ‘Ouai leave in conditioner’ on my hands and lightly(!) comb my hair with my fingers.

I let my hair air dry for another 15-20’ while trying not to touch my hair. At 80% dry the final step is a few pumps of either the  ‘almost everything cream’ or ‘Keihls silk and groom’ while scrunching my hair and creating a few curls with my fingers…

Et voilà, natural and easy!

Gina-

I’m a bit low maintenance on the hair styling...

  • Once out of the shower I towel off the excess water and then leave to air dry while I moisturise and get dressed. This can be as quick an air dry as 10 mins or as long as it takes to fully dry.

  • In either case, I need to use products to smooth my hair as my natural grey means there’s always a bit of frizz to combat! My favourite is either Davines Oi Oi oil or Macadamia Natural Oil. Just a very small pump run through damp hair (or dry hair if I’ve blow dried) does the trick.

  • On second day hair, I’ve been using Percy & Reed Smoothing Styling Cream which tames the frizz that comes after the steam of the shower.

  • I occasionally use a flat iron to straighten my fringe and the loose pieces of hair that frame my face but that’s all I ever have time for. This is why I’m so dedicated to Sean as my hairdresser - a good haircut means you don’t have to spend ages faffing about to look great!

I leave my hair to air dry and I usually don’t use any product on my hair.

I have the cream (the almost everything cream) and the bumble and bumble surf spray that I occasionally use when my hair is still wet.

I really love how you did my bob ❤️.

Giorgia- Since I have short hair I usually brush them in the shower after applying the conditioner.

I then rinse and squeeze the excess water with a cotton towel.

I put some natural curly hair cream on my hands and scrunch it into my hair to moisturise and create some definition.

Lastly I let them air dry
